Performance Enhancement and Capacity Enlargement for a DWDM-PON System Utilizing an Optimized Cross Seeding Rayleigh Backscattering Design

Abstract: In this work, a record of 16 channels, with future channel spacing in the telecommunication standardization sector of the International Telecommunications Union G.694.1 (ITU-T G.694.1) for Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) (i.e., 12.5 GHz), is simulated and tested. This work is done to realize a proposed high capacity DWDM-Passive Optical Network (DWDM-PON) system. These specifications are associated with enhancing the upstream (US) capacity to 2.5 Gb/s over a 25 km Single-Mode Fiber (SMF) transmis… Show more

“…and OSNR = 10.7 − log(BER) 1.45 (12) According to the theoretical expressions, the phase imbalance affects the insertion losses of the mm-wave signal and the amplitude of the signal, as shown in Equations ( 5) and (6). Equation (7) proves that phase imbalance affects the EVM, where phase imbalance is an important parameter to estimate phase noise.…”

“…The DWDM is a cost-effective technique that avoids the need for additional fiber for transmission. Furthermore, the advantages of DWDM networks make them suitable for long-haul transmission data [12][13][14][15]. However, some equipment hinders the implementation of cost-effective DWDM networks rather than the RoF systems.…”

“…In recent years, they have been ranked among the most important platforms used in ODP applications and for making them cost-effective [1]. PhCs, in this type of application, are compared to famous photonic-based technologies, such as visible light communications (VLC) [2][3][4][5][6][7][8], semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs) [9], fiber Bragg grating (FBG) [10][11][12], Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) [13,14], free-space optical communication (FSO) [15,16], and modulators used in optical networks [17]. Characteristics obtained from the photonic domain, including immunity to electromagnetic interference, safety in highly combustible environment, fast response speed, and long-range monitoring, are features that make PhC promising [18,19].…”
