Performance measurement for knowledge management project: model development and empirical validation

Abstract: Purpose This paper aims to propose a model for measuring the performance of knowledge management (KM) projects in enterprises. No such model has been proposed in the literature thus far. The activities, factors and outcomes of KM are the main constructs of the model. Their operationalization and interactions are investigated. Design/methodology/approach A survey was conducted of 120 respondents from SME firms in Morocco. A structural equation modeling (SEM) technique called partial least squares (PLS) was us… Show more

“…In summary, this result suggests that knowledge-intensive companies that possess more knowledge assets place emphasis on more comprehensive PMS to capture the real contribution of their strategic knowledge resources. This finding broadly supports the work of prior studies in this area linking knowledge-related resources with MACS in general and PMS in particular (Asiaei et al, 2018;Tayles et al, 2007;Widener, 2006;Cardoni et al, 2020;Oufkir and Kassou, 2019;Sardi et al, 2020aSardi et al, , 2020b.…”

“…In particular, given the fact that performance mechanisms are mainly used as a tool to support corporate strategies, the generation, transfer, integration and leverage of various knowledge-related factors can determine the design and use of PMS (Cardoni et al, 2020). Using a more comprehensive performance mechanism can assist organizations to better synchronize their corporate procedures and leveraging their knowledge resources (Oufkir and Kassou, 2019). Therefore, we argue that both KM factors in this study, i.e.…”

“…PLS-SEM is particularly useful for producing robust estimations for structural models and gaining insights on causal relations among latent variables, providing high statistical power rendering it adequate for exploratory research and theory development (Hair et al , 2019). Current research in the field of knowledge management has adopted PLS-SEM and achieved valuable findings, such as the exploitation of shared knowledge and its mediating effect on creative behavior (Kim, 2019), environmental turbulence affecting the impact of different knowledge sources on frugal innovation (Dost et al , 2019), effects of technological uncertainty and dynamic capabilities on collaborative innovation (Jiao et al , 2019) and the generation of performance measures for knowledge management ventures (Oufkir and Kassou, 2019).…”

“…Knowledge affects the organization's processes in several ways and also greatly affects the organization's effectiveness. In terms of productivity, the KMM helps to achieve organizational performance and goals through resource integration (Oufkir and Kassou, 2019). Based on a literary argument, an effective KMM improves academic performance and services at universities and therefore it was hypothesized as:…”
