“…It is important to note that it is possible alleles derived from the 129S6 line will flank the mutated gene, whereas alleles derived from the C57BL6 line will flank the wild‐type allele, which may influence the behavioral phenotype (Crusio 2004). A recent study examining visuo‐spatial behavior of these two parental strains, as well as the F2 129 × C57BL6 hybrid strain, using a Morris water maze task suggests that the hybrid strain is superior to either parental strain and the parental strains do not differ from each other on this type of task (Bruin et al 2006). In our study, the dcdc2 del 2 /del 2 and dcdc2 wt/del 2 mice show a persistent deficit in learning to navigate the maze; this phenomenon was not reported in either parental line or the hybrid stain in the Bruin et al (2006) study which showed that all mice, regardless of genetic background, learned the task.…”

“…129S6/ SvEvTac acquired the Morris water maze faster than C57Bl/6J in one study (Clapcote and Roder 2004), while data generated in-house at Roche show that C57Bl/6J performed a probe trial better than 129/Ola mice at a time period comparable to the second probe trial in the present study. It is interesting to note that another study demonstrated that an F2 generation hybrid of the C57Bl/6J and 129sv strains acquired the task significantly better than either of the parental inbred strains (de Bruin et al 2006). Thus, the differences observed between the performances of these two NK 3 knockout lines may be related to different genetic backgrounds, which could mean that genetic influences are paramount to determining effects of NK 3 receptor blockade.…”
