Frequency and phasor are the most important parameters in power system monitoring, control, and protection. They can reflect the whole power system situation. In electrical power system it is of utmost importance to keep the frequency as close to its nominal value as possible. In order to control the power system frequency it needs to be measured quickly and accurately. This paper presents continuous genetic algorithm (CGA) technique for estimation of frequency, phase and amplitude of voltage. The main contributions of this paper are -1) systematic method for formulation of problem of estimation of frequency, phase and amplitude of voltage as an unconstrained nonlinear optimization problem, and 2) applying CGA technique to get the optimum solution of this problem. The CGA gives an advantage of requiring less storage than binary genetic algorithm (GA). Also the CGA is inherently faster than binary GA.
