Performance Optimization of Public Transport Using Integrated AHP–GP Methodology

Abstract: The State Road Transport Undertakings (SRTUs) are the economic providers of mass transport in India. The institutional constraints imposed on the SRTUs result in low productivity and inefficiency. In this fiercely competitive environment, the state-owned public transport industry cannot operate sustainably, showing mediocre performance. With relatively scarce financial resources, high political expectations, and competition between operators, the efficiency and performance of the industry must be improved by o… Show more

“…[38][39][40], it is necessary to provide park and ride facilities, modern mass public transportation, the realization of a green belt along the highway, and improve service quality, comfort, and public transportation safety. Improving the quality of the urban environment can be realized by the existence of a progressive motor vehicle tax based on the results of exhaust gas emissions testing, increased integration between modes of mass public transportation, construction of pedestrian and bicycle paths, reducing the need for trips within the city through land use, separating mass public transport routes from other modes of transportation, the shift from private modes to public transport modes to reduce fuel consumption, and the imposition of onstreet parking bans along with public mode areas [45][46][47].…”

“…Earlier, Gür et al ( 2017 ), Hamurcu and Eren ( 2018 ), Cyril et al ( 2019 ) used in combination AHP-GP model in their studies. In the AHP-GP model, the objective function includes deviation variables associated with the four criteria goals.…”

“…Alkharabsheh et al (2019) analysed passenger demand for the development of the urban transport system by an AHP model. Cyril et al (2019) have developed a method based on AHP, could be used for performance evaluation and optimization of different public transport systems. A combined SWOT and AHP method is used by many authors.…”
