Periodic nano-ripples structures fabricated on WC/Co based TiAlN coatings by femtosecond pulsed laser

Abstract: Periodic nano-ripples structures were fabricated by femtosecond laser scanning on WC/Co based TiAlN coatings. The surface morphology, ripples dimension and changes in the element content of samples irradiated with different processing parameters were analysed. The results show that the formation and quality of ripples are largely determined by pulse energy, scanning speed and scanning spacings. The 3 mJ pulse energy, 500 mm s 21 scanning speed and 5 mm scanning spacing induce best quality ripples on TiAlN film… Show more

“…1-8 AlN films are also used as protective coatings, especially with Ti incorporation into the structure. 11-15 AlN has good piezoelectric properties and has been used in surface acoustic wave (SAW) devices. 6,9,10 In addition, AlN has a large optical band gap of about 5.9–6.02 eV and high transparency properties in UV and visible light range which makes it a good candidate for transparent electronics and optoelectronics.…”

“…There are many kinds of composite coatings developed so far, such as Co–WC composite coating for high hardness [2], Ni–SiC composite coating for high wear resistance [3], Ni–Al 2 O 3 composite coating for corrosion resistance [4], Au–graphite composite coating for good electrical contact function [5], as well as the composite coating of inorganic fullerene nanometre material for self-lubricating property [6]. For wear resistance application, the cobalt-based composite coatings have attracted much attention as this coating could form a layer of oxide glazing film at temperature above 300°C.…”
