Periodontal Plastic Microsurgery in the Treatment of Deep Gingival Recession after Orthodontic Movement

Abstract: Gingival recession is a condition that affects a large portion of the young and adult population and negatively affects the aesthetic aspects of the smile. Many factors are related to its development, including orthodontic movement beyond the osseous limits. Many treatment options have been proposed to cover the exposed root surface. The aim of this article was to describe three cases where a subepithelial connective tissue graft was performed, using a microsurgical technique, in the treatment of deep gingival… Show more

“…It can occur in case of extreme arch expansions, 1 in an attempt at a conservative treatment with no extractions, moving the tooth outside the alveolar housing, 2 mainly on mandibular incisor proclination. Moreover, a higher incidence of facial bony dehiscence and GR is found for thin periodontal phenotype, 3 affecting between 20% and 25% of patients, between 2 and 5 years after orthodontic treatment. 4 Thereby, as result of orthodontic management, GR may be associated with apical periodontitis, jeopardizing either the vitality of the tooth as the buccal bone wall.…”
