Along with increasing age, more and more health problems are faced. In the elderly, health problems that often occur include hypertension, diabetes mellitus, dementia, cataracts and benign prostate enlargement. This causes various psychiatric problems in the elderly such as anxiety, depression and sleep quality disorders that can affect the quality of life of the elderly. In these problems the family has an important role to guide, assist and overcome the problems faced by the elderly. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there is a relationship between the role of the family and the quality of life in the elderly. The design in this research is descriptive analytic with a cross sectional approach. The sample in this study was 208 elderly who were selected using purposive sampling method with univariate and bivariate data analysis using chi square test. Collecting data using a questionnaire on family roles and quality of life. The results of the analysis showed that there was a significant relationship between the role of the family and the quality of life of the elderly in the working area of the Kedaung Wetan Health Center with a p value of 0.000. The role of the family as a motivator, educator, facilitator is very helpful in improving the quality of life of the elderly. Researchers suggest that the family fulfills its role as a motivator, educator, and facilitator so that the elderly have an improved quality of life for the elderly.
