The existence of an online learning policy that seems suddenly has an impact on many students who are not ready to carry out the online learning process. The aim of this research is to examine perceptions, problems, and summarize students' experiences regarding strategies for resolving challenges when participating in online learning. This research is classified as a qualitative descriptive research type, with research subjects namely 61 students. Data collection in the research was carried out using observation, interviews and questionnaires, with research instruments in the form of observation and interview guidelines. The data obtained in the research was then analyzed using the Bogdan & Biklen model data triangulation technique. The data obtained is then presented in qualitative descriptive form, by adjusting the research results with the results of previous research. The results of the research analysis show that the challenges faced by students when carrying out online learning activities consist of interference from the surrounding environment, less than optimal use of the internet, students' lack of understanding of the material delivered by lecturers and reduced interaction between students and lecturers during online learning. The strategies used to face challenges for students taking part in online learning are adapted to the students' different conditions and abilities so that solutions can be found individually.

Aside from sports practice, student athletes are required to study on campus, sometimes learning was carried out online. Surabaya State University develops online learning and is named Virtual Learning Surabaya State University, abbreviated as Vinesa. The application of Vinesa needs to get a response from users, one of whom is a student athlete. Therefore, this study aims to determine student athlete perceptions of Vinesa. A cross-sectional approach was used in this research. A total of 125 student athletes were involved in this study (86 male, 39 female, age range of 19–24 years). The research instrument used was the Vinesa perception scale. The data analysis technique uses descriptive statistics. The calculation produces 5 categories, namely very good, good, moderate, less, and very less. The results show that majority of student-athlete perceptions of Vinesa are at a moderate level, namely 45.6%. There was no difference in perception of vinesa in the adolescent and early adult age groups also between male and female student athlete. Based on these results, the Vinesa development team needs to make improvements to the server to make it more accessible. In addition, it is necessary to complete the application usage guide so that it is easier for Vinesa users to understand.

Due to the widespread COVID-19, many educational institutions were closed, and students were advised to stay at home with only brief personal excursions outside. Globally, the closure of educational institutions around the world has recorded US $ 10 trillion (RM41 trillion) of lost revenue in just four months of closure. For higher education institutions, the approach of distance education or Open and Distance Learning (ODL) is seen as very significant in current higher education. However, the change from face-to-face classes to virtual classes and the cancellation and replacement of assessments have affected students’ academic performance. To address the significance of online teaching in such emergency cases, the present study aimed to investigate the effects of COVID-19 on the academic performance of Malaysian and Indonesian students. The quantitative data were collected from 700 undergraduate business students through an online survey. Structural equation modelling was used to analyse the collected quantitative data. The study found that both teaching methods and self-motivation have a positive relationship with students’ academic performance in Malaysia and Indonesia, while course assessment has a positive relationship with students’ academic performance in Malaysia. Lastly, class attendance did not influence students’ academic performance in both countries of Malaysia and Indonesia.
