Persistent Quantum Beats and Long-Distance Entanglement from Waveguide-Mediated Interactions

Abstract: We study photon-photon correlations and entanglement generation in a one-dimensional waveguide coupled to two qubits with an arbitrary spatial separation. To treat the combination of nonlinear elements and 1D continuum, we develop a novel Green function method. The vacuum-mediated qubit-qubit interactions cause quantum beats to appear in the second-order correlation function. We go beyond the Markovian regime and observe that such quantum beats persist much longer than the qubit lifetime. A high degree of long… Show more

“…While this Review has described some applications that utilize the high Q, there are many more opportunities such as in nonlinearity enhancement and in quantum optical applications that have not been explored. The long-range interactions in FabryPérot BICs may be useful for nanophotonic circuits 104 and for quantum information processing 105,106 . It has also been proposed that the light intensity may act as another tuning parameter in nonlinear materials, which may enable robust BICs 248 , tunable channel dropping 249 , light storage and release 250,251 , and frequency comb generation 252 .…”

“…Spontaneous entanglement generation in waveguide setups has already been predicted [9,10]. Many other interesting phenomena, such as mesoscopic entanglement [11], long-distance quantum beats [12], or the formation of sub-and superradiant states [13], show that waveguides are excellent platforms for quantum-information processing.…”
