Objective: To analyze the communication of a child’s death and the grief support provided to the women during puerperium.Methods: This is a qualitative study performed at a capital of the Northeast region of Brazil. Semi-structured interviews were carried out with 15 women, whose children died from July 2012 to July 2014. The interviews contained questions about the child’s death and the grieving process. The content analysis was performed with a thematic approach.Results: The women expressed the suffering and the anguish of the loss of a child, sometimes aggravated by the way in which the news of death was delivered, and by the lack of support offered in the coping process. Two empirical categories were found: receiving the news of death and going back home empty-handed. The health care teams are not prepared to deliver bad news, nor to give support to women who lose a newborn child. According to the women, the support received from the family and religion helped them in the grieving process.Conclusions: The results indicate the need for professional qualification for the delivery of bad news and for grief support. They also showed the need for institutional policies that offer support to the professionals. Besides, the articulation with the primary health care team is imperative for the continuity of care.

“…Nesta lógica, guiado pelos pressupostos de humanização nos serviços, independente do estado de consciência dos pacientes, cabe constatar que a humanização deve fazer parte da filosofia e da prática dos profissionais de saúde, nos diversos cenários em que atuam, especialmente nas UTI, nas quais os recursos materiais e a tecnologia são muito importantes, porém, não são mais significativos do que a essência humana 14 . ResumoIntrodução: A admissão em uma unidade de terapia intensiva é um evento estressante tanto para o paciente quanto para seus familiares. Objetivos: Conhecer os sentimentos dos familiares em relação ao paciente internado em unidade de terapia intensiva, identificados pela literatura científica; identificar evidências acerca das intervenções desenvolvidas pela enfermagem para minimizar estes sentimentos. Material e Métodos: Trata-se de uma revisão integrativa, de cunho qualitativo e caráter exploratório, que utilizou para coleta dos dados os seguintes descritores: "Família", "Sentimentos" e "Unidade de Terapia Intensiva" nas seguintes bases de dados Medline, Lilacs e BDenf, com recorte temporal entre 2006 a 2016. Conforme os critérios de inclusão e exclusão totalizaramse 18 artigos, os quais foram apresentados por meio de sua caracterização em um quadro sinóptico. Resultados: Tornase evidente nos estudos a ambivalência de sentimentos dos familiares, sentimentos positivos e negativos atribuídos pelo cenário de uma unidade de terapia intensiva. Poucos estudos apontam para estratégias de intervenção e seus efeitos nos familiares. Conclusão: poucos estudos fornecem estratégias a serem desenvolvidas, assim como seus efeitos perante aos envolvidos, foi possível refletir e salientar a lacuna existente no cenário assistencial e também em cunho científico de pesquisas no que se refere a intervenções frente aos familiares de pacientes internados em terapia intensiva.Descritores: Cuidados Críticos; Relações Profissional-Famí-lia; Família; Emoções; Unidade de Terapia Intensiva. AbstractIntroduction: The admission to an intensive care unit is a stressful event for both the patient and family. Objectives: Know the feelings of the relatives of the patient hospitalized in an intensive care unit, as well as to identify evidence about the interventions developed by nursing to minimize these feelings. Material and Methods: This is an integrative review of the literature using qualitative and exploratory approaches carried out from 2006 through 2016. The following descriptors were used separately and combined in all databases: "Family", "Feelings", and "Intensive Care Unit". Databases searched included Medline, Lilacs, and BDenf. The literature search resulted in the identification of 18 articles, which were presented by their characterization in a synoptic table. Results: The ambivalence of family members' feelings, such as positive feelings, as well as the negatives attributed by the setting of an intensive care unit, is evident in the studies. In the face of interventions, it is considered a shortcoming, insofar as it has few studies that point out intervention strategies and their effects on family members. Conclusion: Few studies have provided strategies to be developed, as well as their effects in relation to those involved, it was possible to reflect and highlight the gap in the care setting and also in scientific research with regard to interventions for the relatives of patients hospitalized in intensive care.

RESUMO Objetivo: investigar a existência da relação entre as necessidades e o apoio social percebidos pelos familiares de pacientes em cuidados paliativos na UTI. Método: tratar-se de um estudo quantitativo, de caráter transversal. Realizar-se-á a pesquisa com 52 familiares de pacientes que estejam em cuidados paliativos na UTI, em um hospital privado referência. Propor-se-ão os seguintes instrumentos para a realização desta pesquisa: questionário clínico e sociodemográfico, Escala de Apoio Social e Inventário de Necessidades e Estressores de Familiares em Terapia Intensiva. Basear-se-á a análise dos dados nas estatísticas descritiva e inferencial. Resultados esperados: esperar-se-á contribuir para o avanço na temática e para o desenvolvimento de práticas profissionais que venham ao encontro das demandas desta clientela, para que possam ser supridas.
