Perspectives and Development of Electrical Systems in More Electric Aircraft

Abstract: On-board electrical systems are the key components of each modern aircraft. They enable its safer, more comfortable, and environmentally friendlier operation. The strict regulations to reduce pollution and noise are produced by aircraft eventuated in projects like Clean Sky or ICAO Global Coalition for Sustainable Aviation. One solution to environmentally friendlier operation is the full electric propulsion of the aircraft, which enables the reduction of both noise and pollution. Such a concept requires a tota… Show more

“…By increasing the temperature of the deposition from 800 to 950 °C, a tremendous increment in the Si content (from 1.7 to 21.5 atom %) was observed. In both samples (gSi 800°C , gSi 950°C ), the C 1s core-level spectra were deconvoluted using the sp 2 , sp 3 , and C−O + CO, COOH, 40 and C−Si bonds (Table 3). The C−Si contents were estimated as 3 and 8.7% for gSi 800°C and gSi 950°C samples, respectively, which was in good agreement with the higher Si atomic percentage observed for gSi 950°C .…”

“…In the aircraft industry, there is a drive toward the concept of hybrid electric-powered or more-electric aircraft (MEA) and eventually of an all-electric aircraft. This increased tendency for the amplified usage of electrical power on aircraft emanates from the need to enhance the overall aircraft efficiency, decrease fuel consumption, and thus reduce emissions of greenhouse gases. , Coupled with this need, there is a rising trend for the use of carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites due to their superior mechanical characteristics and lightweight nature …”

“…One of the essential operational characteristics of electric aircraft machines is reliability [6][7][8][9][10]. A fully superconducting electrical machine based on the second generation HTS tapes [11,12], Engineering created at the moment in the world, did not pass the service life tests.…”

“…This type of generators have advantages such as being able to provide higher power levels and are lightweight by reducing the number of cables by having a voltage of 120 VAC, and the voltage change can be done more easily thanks to the use of transformers, despite this, it has disadvantages such as its frequency instability so additional units are needed to control it as is the Constant Speed Driver or hydromechanical systems that have evolved over time, and this is where More Electric Aircraft (MEA) enters (Arabul, et al, 2021).…”
