This article examines whether educators’ use of selling activities (selling-to-teach) based on the seminal sales process can improve perceived and actual learning. By viewing the teaching interaction as a sales situation, the authors suggest professors can help students realize their need for learning just as a salesperson helps a prospect realize a need for a product or service. Leveraging the theoretical communication commonalities in teaching and selling, we posit that selling-to-teach will positively affect perceived and actual learning. Using a mixed-methods approach through two studies, we find qualitative and quantitative (n=616) support for selling-to-teach. Instead of examining pedagogy in sales, we suggest that sales is a pedagogy to be used across disciplines. This fuller examination unveils the sales process as a pedagogical tool to empower instructors and to maximize the student learning experience through different selling steps used as teaching method.

Ritual practice is a basic feature in the religious life of a Muslim. Therefore, students in elementary schools are invited to practice religious rituals in learning the religion of Islam. Islamic Religious Education teachers try to teach students how to express their religion through rituals because ritual practice is a form of ritual communication. This study aims to describe and interpret the forms of religious rituals carried out in elementary schools, as well as communication models of religious rituals in building multicultural awareness. This study uses a qualitative-phenomenological approach. Data was collected by interviewing 18 informants in depth. Informants consisted of principals, religious teachers, parents and students. In addition, data were also obtained from several school documents. The research location is Setia Budhi Elementary School, East Java. Data analysis was carried out in three stages; data condensation, data display and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the communication of religious rituals that were expressed through Islamic Religious Education learning contained social messages from childhood. It can function as multicultural learning because the ritual communication is not only intended as a religious expression but as an expression of harmony and togetherness because they can cooperate with each other in celebrating their respective religious rituals. Although there is an exclusive side of a religion, such as prayer, fasting and others, in other rituals, they are able to communicate well, so that it contains learning content to respect each other.

Online learning in Fashion Design Vocational School finds challenges in its application, especially in the practical learning method. One of the strategies used in practicum is by using video blogs in the process of delivering a practical lesson. This study aimed to find student perceptions in learning that utilizes online video blogs, the process of transmitting meaning on distance learning, and advantages and disadvantages of video blogs. There were 5 participants and 1 source person. The methods of data collection were conducted by doing interview, participatory observation, and documentation studies. The method employed in this study was a qualitative case study method conducted in the Decorating Cloth Appreciation class in the 2020/2021 Academic Year. The results showed that: (1) There were positive perceptions in online practicums related to teaching and learning aspects and the delivery of material with vlogs, negative perceptions were found on aspects of internet network limitations and student learning facilities during online learning. (2) The process of transmitting meaning was supported by instructional communication between educators and students. (3) The advantages of video blog media were in the aspect of delivering easy-to-understand content, the flexible and repetitive nature of the media user online. The lack of video blog media lies in the uneven understanding of students, especially in practicum cases which often lead to different findings in practice. It can be concluded that the use of video vlogs can be an alternative learning resource in distance practicum learning.
