The sustainable success of water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) interventions to reduce waterborne disease and promote public health in low‐income regions is uncertain. Recent large randomized controlled trials in Bangladesh, Kenya, and Zimbabwe revealed that traditional household WASH interventions are unlikely to reduce diarrhea or improve linear growth (i.e., reduce stunting) in infants and children—two important indicators of the effectiveness of WASH interventions. A possible factor contributing to the null results is that traditional WASH interventions control microbial pathogens but do not remove chemical toxicants. Exposure to many organic and inorganic chemical toxicants is associated with diarrheal symptoms, as well as with preterm birth and stunting. Many chemical toxicants have deleterious effects on the immune system, impairing the body's response to infectious diseases, and reducing the effectiveness of vaccinations. Globalization has led to rapid and largely unregulated import, production, use, and disposal without adequate treatment of large quantities of hazardous chemicals throughout the developing world, with profound effects on the environment and human health. Literature evidence from the past 10 to 15 years on putative and demonstrated chemical exposures in Bangladesh, Kenya, and Zimbabwe and the regions within the countries where the large WASH trials took place supports potential contribution(s) from chemical toxicants in the failure of traditional WASH interventions to relieve diarrhea and stunting. Mitigating exposures to organic and inorganic chemical immunotoxins through drinking water and other routes is likely to be a necessary‐but‐insufficient criterion for the sustainable success of WASH interventions. Background: The dieback disease of tea caused by Fusariumsolani adversely affects its production and quality. Genus Trichoderma is a promising biocontrol agent to control it without any residual effect and most suitable for inclusion into an integrated disease management approach. Isolation of Trichoderma from rhizosphere soil of the Dooars zone was done. It was identified as T. asperellum based on its cultural characters and DNA fingerprinting. A liquid formulation (2% Aqueous Suspension) was prepared from it and bio-efficacy was evaluated under field conditions for the control of dieback disease and other parameters for two seasons in three zones. Its different concentrations, T. harzianum, and Hexaconazole were included in the study. Results: The fungal isolate (KBN-29), identified as T. asperellum, was found nearest to the isolate TV-3 (Genebank-KX538814.1) with 99% similarity. Plots treated with T. asperellum 2% AS at 1000 and 1200ml/ha concentration gave better disease control as the yield of green leaves as compared to Hexaconazole 5% EC. The formulation was safe to non-target beneficial organisms’ in all three zones without any phytotoxicity to tea leaves at 4, 8, and 16ml/L concentrations.Conclusions: The present study confirms that the developed liquid formulation of T. asperellum 2% AS was found significantly superior for the management of dieback disease of tea plantations in Darjeeling, Dooars, and Assam zones when used at concentrations of 1200 and 1000 ml followed by 800 and 600 ml/ha during both seasons. The maximum made tea yield was recorded in plots treated with T. asperellum at 1000 and 1200ml/ha followed by Hexaconazole 5% EC. The T. asperellum 2% AS was observed to be safe for non-target beneficial organisms viz., C. carnea, O. javanus, and S. gilvifrons. The developed T. asperellum 2% AS formulation was not phytotoxic to tea leaves at 4, 8, and 16ml/L concentrations.

Background: A novel liquid formulation of Trichoderma asperellum was prepared and its effectiveness was assessed by different methods for the management of tomato damping-off in the nursery. The experiments were conducted for two consecutive years in a randomized block design with three replications. Results: T. asperellum formulation improved seed germination and management of tomato damping-off when compared with control. All the treatments performed better over control, in the first year, the antagonist’s application enhanced seed germination up to 75.75 percent, however, it was 60.13 percent in control. There was 10.93 to 20.38 percent seedling mortality due to damping off which was comparatively lower than the control (26.98%). A similar trend of seed germination and disease incidence was observed in the second year. In addition to managing the disease, the antagonist certainly promoted the vegetative growth which was reflected as increased shoot and root length in comparison to control during both years. During the first year, shoot length ranged 10.90 – 12.85 cm as compared to the control (8.72 cm) and root length ranged from 3.21 to 3.65 cm which was greater than the control. Almost a similar trend in the vegetative growth parameters of seedling was observed during the second year. Conclusion: The present investigation showed that the tested antagonist’s formulation could efficiently managed the tomato damping-off as well as encouraged the vegetative growth of seedlings which ultimately ensured better and healthy seedling. And this formulation can successefully used through different methods to take care of tomato damping off.
