Petrogenesis and tectonic implications of Maoniushan monzogranites in the western margin of the Yangtze Block, Southwest China: Constraints from geochemistry, zircon U–Pb geochronology, and Hf–Nd–Sr isotopes

Abstract: The Neoproterozoic granites along the western margin of the Yangtze Block are crucial for understanding the evolution of the Rodinia supercontinent and crust–mantle interaction. Based on a regional geological survey, this study analyses the zircon U–Pb geochronology, Lu–Hf isotope, whole‐rock Sr–Nd isotopes, and geochemistry of the Maoniushan granites along the western margin of the Yangtze Block and discusses the Neoproterozoic tectonic evolution history of the Mianning–Maoniushan belt. The results show that … Show more

“…However, the timing for the opening of the Yarlung–Tsangpo Neo‐Tethyan Ocean remains controversial. Liu, Li, et al (2023) carried out a systematic study involving whole‐rock geochemistry, Sr–Nd–Pb isotopes, zircon U–Pb ages and Lu–Hf isotopes on a suite of foid gabbro, amphibole gabbro, monzogabbro and pyroxene‐bearing monzodiorite from the Middle Permian Luerma igneous complex in the southern Lhasa subterrane. Zircon U–Pb dating results constrain the emplacement age of the Luerma complex to ca.…”

“…Therefore, the Zhangfangshan granodiorites are I-or A-type granites. All granodiorite samples display high K 2 O + Na 2 O (7.12~10.74 wt.%) and FeO t contents (2.04~3.47 wt.%), low Rb contents (109.56~134.60 ppm), high 10,000*Ga/Al (2.8~3.3) and Zr + Nb + Ce + Y (368.17~544.83 ppm) values, demonstrating that the Zhangfangshan granodiorites show an affinity to A-type granites [69][70][71][72][73][74]. In the discrimination diagrams for I-S-A-type granite by Whalen et al [70] (Figure 9a,b), all samples are plotted in the A-type granite field rather than the I and S-type field.…”
