Petroleum Sorbers Based on Renewable Alkyd Resin and Lignin

Abstract: The interest in magnetic nanoparticles has been growing in recent years, several fields of research are exploring the properties of these materials. Among them, the authors can mention the inclusion of these nanoparticles in materials that perform the cleaning of oil spills, thus producing easy contaminant removal from the place by the aid of the action of a magnetic field. Several materials can be used aiming to this purpose. However, to the best of our knowledge, alkyd resins filled with lignin has never bee… Show more

“…These calculations were performed by the extrapolation of the magnetic nanocomposites amount to zero, shown in Equation ( 6): lim MNC→0 ORC(MNC)= IORC (6) Data proved that, the smaller the amount of geopolymer in the oil slick, the greater the sorption capability of this material. The activating agents present in the geopolymer structure allow for lower steric hindrance, which facilitates the adsorption of carboxylated and olefinic compounds present in petroleum by the geopolymer matrix [39]. In this case, geopolymer-based materials can remove (67 ± 1) g of oil per 1 g of geopolymer.…”

“…This preparation was optimized via experimental design and the ORC was equal to 20 g/g. A second magnetizable alkyd resin was loaded with lignin [ 39 ] and showed an ORC of 25 g/g. In 2018, urea-loaded poly(butylene succinate) was used as a bioremediation system [ 40 ], and then in 2019, a magnetizable version of this polymer [ 41 ] showed an ORC equal to 11 g/g.…”

“…Nowadays, the search for high‐performance, environmentally friendly, and low‐cost materials is constantly advancing. [ 7–114 ] According to Google Scholar, during the last decade (2010–2020), 1310000 articles were published in the area of high‐performance materials. They include high‐performance materials produced with polymers, with 12,5000 articles registered.…”
