Pharmacognostical Screening and Determination of Antioxidant Activity of Nelumbo Nucifera Gaertn Ethanol Seed Extract by Different in Vitro Models

Abstract: Objective: To perform the pharmacognostical screening and determination of antioxidant activity of Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn ethanol seed extract by different in vitro models. Methods:The different pharmacognostical parameters were evaluated as per standard protocols with some modifications. The various concentrations of ethanol seed extract of Nelumbo nucifera were evaluated for antioxidant activity using the standard in vitro methods like hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) scavenging assay, nitric oxide (NO) radical sca… Show more

“…The mobile phase is a mixture of the solvent (all the solvents were distilled before being used) with certain ratio, that the obtained gradient eluent system with different polarity. Elution process using solvent mixture of low to high polarity (n-hexane -ethyl acetate -methanol) The fractions have been obtained is then evaporated and the chromatogram profiles identified by the method of TLC using silica gel 60 F 254 (Merck, 0,25 mm, normal phase) [13,14]. So that the fraction that has the same of chromatogram profile, then combined and conducted of testing the inhibitory activity of the α-glucosidase enzyme.…”

“…The disc diffusion technique was followed [24,27,30] at a concentration of 250 μg mL-1 ampicillin and streptomycin used as the standard drugs. The measured antibacterial activities regarding zone of inhibition in millimetres of all bicyclic ketones are presented in Table 3.…”

“…23 The mono-or di-or tri-or poly -OH (alcohols) and -OCH3 substituted organic compounds possess significant antioxidant activities. 24,25 Literature survey reveals that the synthesis and the study of pharmacological effects of 2-hydroxy-1-naphthyl based bicyclic methanones are almost absent in the past. Hence, the author has taken efforts to synthesize some 2-hydroxy-1-naphthyl based heptane[2.2.1]methanones by greener method for the evaluation of antimicrobial activity by Bauer-Kirby 26 disc diffusion method and the antioxidant activities by diphenyl picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging 27 activity ability.…”

“…A perspective tendency of modern pharmaceutical technology is the search for effective products based on natural biologically active substances, which due to multicomponent composition, have a wide range of pharmacological activity. They contain a number of natural antioxidants that are easily involved in the metabolic processes of the organism, are more affordable and characterized by low toxicity, mild influence, and the absence of side effects [1][2][3]. Such complex drugs are less toxic which is beneficial, and that distinguishes them from medicinal products of microbial and synthetic origin.…”
