“…In rainbow trout, recovery time was slightly longer 1.3 -8.1 × compared to induction time. This could be explained by the fact that eugenol exerts an inhibitory effect on respiration, reducing the ability of fish to remove the excess of eugenol from the system via the gills (Keene et al 1998;Guénette et al 2007). Our results indicate that clove concentration of 50 mg·l -1 induces the minimum induction and recovery times in rainbow trout; thus, this dose may be suitable for sedation and for standard on-farm procedures that require anaesthesia.…”

“…Nesse aspecto, o eugenol possui vantagem sobre a benzocaína por ser rapidamente metabolizado e excretado, não havendo necessidade de depuração (CHO & HEATH, 2000). No entanto, estudos recentes revelam que a administração sucessiva de eugenol pode levar à acumulação do produto em trutas e que novos estudos devem ser conduzidos para determinar sua toxicidade (GUENETTE et al, 2007).…”

“…It has been used as fish anaesthetics in the aquaculture industry and has shown to have low intoxication and mortality risks (Soto and Burhanuddin, 1995;Griffiths, 2000;Inoue et al, 2011). Moreover, the use of this anesthetic is advantageous because it is relatively inexpensive, efficacious, cost effectiveness, safe and does not present risks for users or to the environment (Soto and Burhanuddin, 1995;Munday and Wilson, 1997;Guénette et al, 2007;Hisano et al, 2008;Lucena et al, 2013;Öğretmen et al, 2014).…”
