Background and Aim Arnica montana L. (Arnica m.) is a popular traditional medicine, used for its therapeutic properties in healing traumas, but little is known about its biological action on tissue formation and repair. This new work tested the effects of Arnica m. homeopathic dilutions on human macrophages, key cells in tissue defence and repair. Materials and Methods Macrophages derived from the THP-1 cell line were differentiated with interleukin-4 to induce a ‘wound-healing’-like phenotype, and treated with various dilutions of Arnica m. centesimal (100 times) dilutions (2c, 3c, 5c, 9c, and 15c) or control solvent for 24 hours. RNA samples from cultured cells were analysed by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction in five separate experiments. Results Arnica montana at the 2c dilution (final concentration of sesquiterpene lactones in cell culture = 10−8 mol/L) significantly stimulated the expression of three genes which code for regulatory proteins of the extracellular matrix, namely FN1 (fibronectin 1, % increase of 21.8 ± standard error of the mean 4.6), low-density lipoprotein-receptor-related protein 1 (% increase of 33.4 ± 6.1) and heparan sulphate proteoglycan 2 (% increase of 21.6 ± 9.1). Among these genes, the most quantitatively expressed was FN1. In addition, FN1, unlike other candidate genes, was upregulated in cells treated with higher dilutions/dynamisations (3c, 5c, and 15c) of Arnica m. Conclusion The results support evidence that the extracellular matrix is a potential therapeutic target of Arnica m., with positive effects on cell adhesion and migration during tissue development and healing.

Human health is intimately linked to the ecology and diversity of the human microbiome. Together, the human organism and the human microbiome work as a complex super-organism throughout the human life cycle. Microbiome science provides direct evidence and substantiation of the fundamental principles of homeopathy, including holism, psychosomatics, direction of cure, the Law of Similars, individuality and susceptibility, minimum dose, and homeostasis. Whilst many conventional (allopathic) medical treatments irreversibly damage the ecology of the microbiome and trigger chronic immune dysfunction and inflammation, the future sustainability of the entire field of medicine depends on the ability to recognize these inconvenient biological truths and to embrace a safer approach based on this evidence. Fortunately, one of the oldest forms of clinically verifiable, evidence-based, and ecologically sustainable medicine, that does not harm the microbiome, already exists in the form of homeopathy.

Background. Acute respiratory viral infection (ARVI) is accompanied by a general intoxication syndrome and respiratory mucosa predominant damage. A significant number of viral nature pathogens from various nosological groups (influenza viruses, parainfluenza, adenoviruses, respiratory syncytial viruses, coronaviruses, picornaviruses, rhinoviruses, enteroviruses, herpesviruses, etc.) could cause development of ARVI at human respiratory tract. Methods of ethnoscience and non-traditional medicine can be used as part of integrated treatment and prevention of influenza and ARVI. With the help of anti-cold homeopathic remedies, people can be treated from the very beginning of the disease when an elevated temperature is observed and there are all signs of intoxication and inflammation. Objective. Scientific justification for the safety and efficacy of a complex homeopathic formulation in tablet form (Aconitum napellus D6, Ammonium bromatum D4, Atropa belladonna D6, Bryonia D6, Cinchona pubescens D6, Echinacea D3, Hydrargyrum bicyanatum D8, Rhustoxicodendron D6) intended to enhance the natural immunity in influenza and respiratory diseases, to normalize the functional state of the immune system and upper respiratory tract. Results. Most patients have acute febrile respiratory syndrome, and some population groups have an increased risk of complications in the form of severe illness or death. These groups include elderly people, very young people, and people with concomitant illnesses. Annually, every third inhabitant of the planet suffers from acute respiratory infections. We have conducted a scientific substantiation of the safety and efficacy of a complex homeopathic tablet formulation (Aconitum napellus D6, Ammonium bromatum D4, Atropa belladonna D6, Bryonia D6, Cinchona pubescens D6, Echinacea D3, Hydrargyrum bicyanatum D8, Rhustoxicodendron D6), which can be used to treat and prevention of these diseases. Conclusions. Components of developed homeopathic preparation are used in medical practice as anti-cold and immunomodulating mono-and complex homeopathic preparations for more than 100 years. There are no restrictions on the use of the drug in the context of its safety profile, since the active ingredient concentrations used are completely non-toxic. The preparation enhances the body's protective responses and promotes the relief of symptoms of acute respiratory infections and flu (headache, sneezing, runny nose, sore throat, body aches, fever) and rapid recovery.
