Photoactivated Nanohybrid for Dual-Nuclei MR/US/PA Multimodal-Guided Photothermal Therapy

Abstract: Nanohybrids have gained immense popularity for the diagnosis and chemotherapy of lung cancer for their excellent biocompatibility, biodegradability, and targeting ability. However, most of them suffer from limited imaging information, low tumor-to-background ratios, and multidrug resistance, limiting their potential clinical application. Herein, we engineered a photoresponsive nanohybrid by assembling polypyrrole@bovine serum albumin (PPy@BSA) encapsulating perfluoropentane (PFP)/129Xe for selective magnetic r… Show more

“…For optoacoustic tomography (OAT) and MRI-guided PTT in orthotopic hepatocellular carcinoma, the epithelial cell adhesion molecule (EpCAM)-conjugated PEGylated Fe 3 O 4 @AuNPs were demonstrated . The perfluoropentane (PFP)-loaded nanohybrid with polypyrrole (PPy) and bovine serum albumin (BSA) shells was developed for MRI/ultrasonic imaging/PAI . In this system, PPy acts as a photothermal agent, while BSA renders biocompatibility, PFP is needed for ultrasonic imaging, and 19 F/ 129 Xe is needed for Hyper-CEST (chemical exchange saturation transfer) MRI.…”

“…[16] In contrast, MRI has the advantage of non-ionizing radiation, along with high spatial resolution and good soft tissue contrast, making it widely used in clinical disease detection. [17] The mainstream MRI is based on imaging using water protons, but the lung is a cavity structure with low water proton density, severely limiting the monitoring capabilities of 1 H MRI in the process of lung cancer immunotherapy. Fortunately, the emerging technology of hyperpolarized 129 Xe MRI, with its ultra-high sensitivity, is particularly suitable for detecting lung diseases [18] and has played a crucial role in assessing lung function in COVID-19 patients.…”
