Photochemical Synthesis of Intensely Luminescent Isocyano Rhenium(I) Complexes with Readily Tunable Structural Features

Abstract: A new class of readily tunable isocyano rhenium(I) diimine luminophores, cis,cis-[Re(CO)(2)(CNR)(2)(N-N)](+) (R=2,4,6-Cl(3)C(6)H(2), 4-ClC(6)H(4), 4-Br-2,6-(CH(3))(2)C(6)H(2), 2,6-(CH(3))(2)C(6)H(3), 4-[(CH(3))(2)N]C(6)H(4), 4-(C(6)H(5))C(6)H(4), 4-nBuC(6)H(4), tBu), has been synthesized in high yield by a highly selective photochemical substitution reaction. These complexes were characterized by (1)H NMR and IR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and elemental analysis. The X-ray crystal structures of one of the… Show more

“…5-75.88, which is typical for diimine transition-metal complexes. [7,13] The ReÀCO and ReÀCNBR 3 bond distances are in the range of 1.90-1.97 and 2.07-2.12 , respectively, which are comparable to those observed in other carbonyl isocyano rhenium(I) complexes. [7b,c,e, 14] For the isocyanoborate ligands in these crystal structures, they are all slightly deviated from linearity, with CNÀB angles of 168.3-178.28.…”

“…This is typically observed in MLCT phosphorescent emitters. [7,18] As a result of the blue-shifted 3 MLCT excited state in these media, the emissions of some of these complexes (1 a-6 a, 3 c, 3 e, and 4 b) changed from the Table S3). The vibrational progressional spacings calculated from the well-resolved structured emission peak maxima were in the range of 1200-1300 cm…”
