“…PDT with polyhematoporphyrin ether/ester 2 mg/kg IV for applied for 60 hours and irradiated with 630 nm YAG‐OPO laser improved cytological measures when treating CIN and also eradicated HPV 37. Similar results were obtained when infection was photoinactivated with photolon 38 and 5‐ALA 39. Topical application of 5‐ALA PDT also successfully treated 13 of the 14 cases of anogenital condyloma accuminata 40.…”

“…Compared to the global or European average, a higher HPV prevalence was detected in previous Lithuanian studies: HPV in cervical cancer patients was detected in 92.0% and in 23.6% of healthy women [13,14]. In Belarusian studies HPV prevalence was stated in 78.6% of women with CIN2-3 [15] and in 27.5% of healthy women with various risk factors [16]. So, both countries show a high level of HPV infection in the healthy population in comparison with European average.…”

“…Each of these dysplasias is considered a precursor to invasive carcinoma, and a nondisfiguring therapy to prevent cancer progression would be valuable. For cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN), PDT offers a nonscarring alternative to cone biopsy, as described in a case series of 112 patients whose CIN was treated using PDT with chlorin e6 (Fotolon), with 92% clearance [60]. In another study of 25 patients with CIN treated with hexyl-ALA PDT, complete response and fibrosis-free healing was confirmed histologically [61].…”
