Photoinduced in Situ Deposition of Uniform and Well-Dispersed PtO2 Nanoparticles on ZnO Nanorods for Efficient Catalytic Reduction of 4-Nitrophenol

Abstract: Based on the photochemical property of semiconductors, a light irradiation-assisted strategy has been designed using one-dimensional ZnO nanorods as carriers to synthesize the rod-type PtO/ZnO catalyst with a well-defined structure. The high crystallinity and uniform crystal structure of the ZnO matrix conduct the in situ deposition of PtO nanoparticles with 1.1-2.1 nm, which are evenly and densely anchored on the surface. Those small-sized and well-dispersed PtO nanoparticles endow the PtO/ZnO catalyst a supe… Show more

“…They have good optical properties, show a bright yellowish fluorescence under ultraviolet irradiation, and have a high quantum yield, which make them suitable for application as a phosphor in light‐emitting devices (LEDs) (Hu et al, 2018). ZnO NPs have high catalytic activity (Ali et al, 2020; Yang et al, 2018) and antibacterial activity; hence, they are widely used in food packaging for the liberation of antibacterial ions and the damage of bacterial cells (Ahmed, Solanki, Zaidi, Khan, & Musarrat, 2019; Beyene & Ghosh, 2019; Zhang et al, 2017). They are is also widely used in cosmetics owing to their wound‐healing effect and ultraviolet‐filtering properties (Khatami et al, 2018; Kim et al, 2017) (Table 2).…”

“…Hence, several investigations have been carried out to eliminate or convert nitroaromatic compounds to less harmful products. 18,19 Aromatic and aliphatic amines are among the most important intermediates in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, dyes, surfactants, anti-foam agents, corrosion inhibitors, and polymers, [20][21][22][23] and can be obtained from direct reduction of nitro compounds. Also, many important compounds such as amides, imines, azo compounds, isocyanates and diazonium salts can be prepared from amines.…”

“…These XPS results demonstrate that the Pt species changes from the metallic Pt to the Pt cations in our Pt/Cu2O-TiO2 photocatalysts prepared by photodeposition as the Cu2O loading increases. and PtO2(011), respectively [29,30,35,36]. Fig.…”
