Photoluminescence and thermoluminescence studies of Mg2SiO4:Eu3+ nano phosphor

Abstract: Phosphor Photoluminescence Thermoluminescence Optical absorption a b s t r a c t Nanoparticles of Eu 3+ doped Mg 2 SiO 4 are prepared using low temperature solution combustion technique with metal nitrate as precursor and urea as fuel. The synthesized samples are calcined at 800• C for 3 h. The Powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) patterns of the sample reveled orthorhombic structure with ␣-phase. The crystallite size using Scherer's formula is found to be in the range 50-60 nm. • C and 345• C besides a shoulder wi… Show more

“…The sharp intense diffraction peaks appearing at 2h of 31.75°, 34.40°, 36.26°, 47.53°, 56.61°, 62.90°, 67.95°and 69.06°corre-spond with those from (100), (002), (101), (102), (110), (103), (200), (112), and (201) orientations, respectively. The crystallite size (D) was found to be *28 nm and was estimated from the line broadening in PXRD using DebyeScherrer's formula (Prashantha et al 2011)…”

“…When RE 3þ cations doped into the host, they could probably occupy both sites. Based on this, Eu 3 þ is chosen to study luminescent properties of the material [4,40,41]. Fig.…”

“…The peak around 220 1C might be due to recombination of charges released from F þ centers near Mg 2 þ /Eu 3 þ sites [42] and peak around 370 1C may tentatively attributed to recombination of F center electrons with holes associated with SiO 4 and Mg 2 þ sites. TL glow curves were analyzed by computerized glow curve deconvolution based on Gaussian function using Origin 8.1 software as discussed elsewhere [41,43,44] and shown in Fig. 6 for a fluence of 5 Â 10 11 ions cm À 2 .…”

“…There have been extensive studies on new phosphors for W-LEDs [3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10]. In particular Eu 3+ -doped oxyacid materials such as tungstates [11], silicates [14], vanadates [15], borates [16] and phosphates [11][12][13][14][15][16][17] have been investigated for red emitting phosphors.…”
