Photoreceptor assessment in focal laser-treated central serous chorioretinopathy using adaptive optics and fundus autofluorescence

Abstract: This study analyzed cone density, cone mosaic, and fundus autofluorescence (FAF) images in patients with focal laser-treated central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC). Observational case series. Forty-two eyes of 21 patients with unilateral treated CSC and bilateral best-corrected visual acuity of 1.0 (decimal fraction) were included. FAF and cone mosaic images were obtained in all patients with an adaptive optics fundus camera. Densities were recorded at 20 points throughout the macula, and… Show more

“…AO-SLO is an imaging tool that can be used to evaluate retinal layer integrity and changes in visual outcomes before and after resolution of CSCR. It can be combined with other devices such as fundus camera and OCT to detect changes in photoreceptor mosaic pattern in patients with CSCR [ 31 , 32 ]. The AO-SLO is able to detect decrease in cone density and disruption of inner segment/outer segment (IS/OS) or intermediate line on OCT [ 33 ].…”

“…The presence of hypoauto uorescent lesions has already been shown to be a negative prognostic factor in CSC [8]. In the CSC case presented above, the leakage point was hypo-AF from the very beginning, indicating that in that area the RPE suffered the most.…”

“…Almost all hyper-AF lesions appeared white on AO cone mosaic and the hypo-AF ones appeared black [ 8 ]. Within a year, most black lesions on the cone mosaic decreased in size and white lesions decreased in intensity ( Fig.…”
