Phylogenetic relationships between Oplophoridae, Atyidae, Pasiphaeidae, Alvinocarididae Fam. N., Bresiliidae, Psalidopodidae and Disciadidae (Crustacea caridea atyoidea)

Abstract: -The Pasiphaeoidea syn.n., Psalidopodoidea syn.n., and Bresilioidea syn.n. have been included under the Atyoidea (more currently known as Oplophoroidea), in order to obtain a natural concept for this taxon. The monophyly of the amended Atyoidea is indicated by the reduced exopod on the first maxilliped. A hierarchy of 20 included monophyletic t a x a , delimited by 42 hypothetical evolutionary novel ties, is summarized in a cladogram. The following sequenced phylogenetic classification is proposed: Superfamily… Show more

“…Chosen out-groups were all once taxonomically related to Potimirim (see introduction), and for this reason were considered possible falsifiers of the hypothesis of a monophyletic Potimirim. Xiphocaris elongata (Guérin-Méneville, 1855) was used to root the analysis, as Xiphocarididae and Atyidae form a monophyletic assemblage with high support (Christoffersen, 1986;Bracken et al, 2009;von Rintelen et al, 2012).…”

“…In the latter genera, the dorsolateral spines on the telson are arranged in a sinuous row, and the accessory spines on the dactyli of the third to fourth pereopods are arranged in three or four rows on the ventral surfaces. However, most of these features characterizing Alvinocaris appear plesiomorphic, as they are shared with the genus Bresilia Calman, 1896, the sister group of the Alvinocarididae (Christoffersen 1986;Komai and Segonzac 2003). Nevertheless, the monophyly of Alvinocaris may be suggested by the possession of a small tubercle on the anterodorsal surface of the eye, as this feature is not known in other alvinocaridid or bresilioid taxa.…”

“…The first species, Alvinocaris lusca, was described from the sampling of the Galapagos vents, and attributed to a new genus of bresilid shrimps [32]. A new genus, Rimicaris, with two new species was then described from Mid-Atlantic hot vents [33] and a new family was proposed [34]. Presently 8 genera and about 27 species are attributed to this family and associated with hot vents and/or with cold seeps.…”
