Phylogenetic relationships of corallinaceae (Corallinales, Rhodophyta): taxonomic implications for reef‐building corallines

Abstract: A new, more complete, five-marker (SSU, LSU, psbA, COI, 23S) molecular phylogeny of the family Corallinaceae, order Corallinales, shows a paraphyletic grouping of seven well-supported monophyletic clades. The taxonomic implications included the amendment of two subfamilies, Neogoniolithoideae and Metagoniolithoideae, and the rejection of Porolithoideae as an independent subfamily. Metagoniolithoideae contained Harveylithon gen. nov., with H. rupestre comb. nov. as the generitype, and H. canariense stat. nov., … Show more

“…En Macaronesia no se encontraron datos de hábitat para 10 especies (véase Tabla 1). (Guiry & Guiry, 2016;Rösler & al., 2016). Mesophyllum destaca también con 3 especies exclusivas (M. brachycladum, M. capense y M. ectocarpon) seguido del género Melyvonnea (2, M. erubescens y M. canariensis), éste último característico de zonas tropicales y subtropicales atlánticas (Athanasiadis & Ballantine, 2014).…”

“…With the advent of DNA sequencing, genera and species of the more intensively studied non-geniculate corallines, especially in Subarctic and Boreal waters in the North Atlantic, have been supported by DNA sequencing and phylogenetic reconstructions (Adey et al, 2015). This support has not proved true for many coralline genera and species in the rest of the world, where DNA sequencing is revealing a multitude of undescribed taxa (e.g., Basso et al, 2015;Hind et al, 2015Hind et al, , 2016Hernandez-Kantun et al, 2016;Peña et al, 2015a,b;Rosler et al, 2016).…”
