Phylogeny of bovine norovirus in Egypt based on VP2 gene

Abstract: Bovine norovirus (BNoV) has emerged as a viral pathogen that causes a gastrointestinal illness and diarrhea in cattle. Despite its worldwide distribution, very little information is known about BNoV in Africa. In this study, BNoV was detected in 27.6% (8/29) of tested fecal materials, collected from sporadic cases of diarrheic calves, using the reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and primers that target RNA dependent RNA polymerase gene. Additionally, one primer pair was designed to flank … Show more

“…3b). Comparing the VP1 structures of the Xinjiang strains with the VP1 structure of GⅢ.1 BNoV, there were significant differences in the P2 subdomain, which also verified the finding of a previous study (23) that the NoV genetic variation can cause differences in the P2 subdomain. (Fig.…”

“…Recently, an updated classification of norovirus genogroups and genotypes was published (Chhabra et al., 2019); however, this update was focused on human norovirus. On the other hand, several studies have been recently performed in order to characterize norovirus circulating in cattle (Castells et al., 2020; Guo et al., 2018; Karayel‐Hacioglu & Alkan, 2019; Mohamed et al., 2017, 2018; Pourasgari et al., 2018; Ryu et al., 2020; Shi et al., 2019; Symes et al., 2018; Turan et al., 2018; Wang et al., 2019 ). A timely, exhaustive, and complete classification of GIII noroviruses is clearly needed, and in this work, we fill this need.…”

“…Different sequence insertions and deletions were also observed in VP2 compared with GIII.1, GIII.2 and GIII.3. While the precise role of VP2 remains to be elucidated, there is evidence that it might be involved in particle stabilization [47,48]. Therefore, whether these sequence variations could affect the stability of NoV particles also needs to be further investigated.…”
