This systematic review of the literature shows the various research advances, perspectives and current trends regarding the shell of the "dragon fruit", and its possible applications for the generation of products with greater added value, which have sustainable production processes. production. Through the use of the PICO and PRISMA methodology, 39 articles out of a total of 169 were reviewed, with exclusions of keywords, age, titles and abstracts. The results show that among the main compounds, polyphenols, flavonoids, pectins, betacyanins have been found, which demonstrate that the peel is highly usable for various applications. There is a clear trend for the use of highly sustainable extraction techniques (ultrasound and microwave), trying to reduce the use of traditional methods in which organic solvents are used. This diversity of products from the Pitahaya peel are highly promising within the food, chemical and pharmaceutical sectors, having a clear strategy to promote the circular economy in these sectors. Finally, the findings obtained support the feasibility of using Pitahaya peel for various applications, which can generate a positive socioeconomic impact.
