Physical Environment Home and Incidence of TB Disease in Tanjungpinang District

Abstract: Abstract-In Tanjungpinang city, the incidence of pulmonary TB is still quite high. In 2011 as many as 2,536 suspected pulmonary TB smear positive cases examined and that as many as 216 patients. The year 2012 has been examined as many as 2,065 patients with chronic cough sputum specimens. The total positive for smear-positive bacteria as many as 184 specimens (District Health Office of Tanjungpinang, 2012). The purpose of this research is to know the relationship physical environmental risk factors (residentia… Show more

“…Lack of ventilation is associated with an increase in indoor air humidity due to the trapping of steam-water resulting from the evaporation of liquids from the skin or moisture absorption from outside the home. Humid home environments can be a good medium for the growth of pathogens, including TB bacteria, which have the ability to survive in dark and humid spaces (Madhona, Ikhwan, & Aminin, 2016).…”

“…Therefore, a house with bad lighting standards greatly affects the incidence of tuberculosis. Tuberculosis germs can survive in a cool, humid, and dark place without sunlight for years and die when exposed to sunlight (Madhona et al, 2016).…”

“…The physical environmental factors of the house that are associated with the incidence of pulmonary TB are the occupants' density, the house's floor, ventilation, lighting, temperature, and humidity [24,25]. Tuberculosis is caused by the bacteria Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which is transmitted through the air (droplet nuclei) when a person with AFB + tuberculosis coughs and splashes of saliva containing bacteria are inhaled by other people while breathing.…”
