Physics Potential of the e-RHIC Based FEL-Nucleus Collider

Abstract: Main parameters of the FEL-RHIC collider are estimated. The physics search potential of this machine is illustrated using excitations of the ^{232}Th nucleus as an example. It is shown that, due to the tunability and monochromacity of FEL beam and high statistics, proposed collider will play an important role in the field of ''traditional'' nuclear physics.Comment: 12 pages, 2 Figure

“…The physics search potential of FEL-nucleus collider was demonstrated for the 154 Sm nucleus excitations in [5], where TTF FEL is considered as the source of photon beam. The advantages of FEL-RHIC collider with respect to traditional NRF methods are demonstrated in [6] for some excitation levels of 232 Th nucleus.…”

“…On the other side, FEL γA options are the matter of interest if the TESLA-like accelerator is chosen as an electron linac. Parameters of the FEL γ-Th collisions for e-linac⊗RHIC are estimated in [25]. The center-of-mass energies which will be achieved at different options of this machine [26,27] are an order larger than those at HERA are and ∼3 times larger than the energy region of TESLA⊗HERA, LEP⊗LHC and µ⊗TEVATRON.…”

“…In [3][4][5][6], a FEL driven by a superconducting linac has been considered. In the case of LHC, and if CLIC is eventually built at CERN [12], it would be interesting to explore the possibility of using CLIC components to accelerate the FEL electron beam.…”
