Phytochemical constituents, antioxidant activity and antimicrobial potential of Pulicaria incisa (lam.) DC as a folk medicinal plant

Abstract: A B S T R A C TThe species belonging to the genus Pulicaria are well known for their traditional uses in folklore medicine, active chemical constituents and pharmacological activities. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the active constituents, antioxidant activity and antimicrobial potential of Pulicaria incisa (lam.) DC extracts. Ethyl acetate and diethyl ether extracts of the dried aerial parts of P. incisa were prepared. The active secondary constituents (alkaloids, phenolics, flavonoids and tannins)… Show more

“…Tannic acid was employed as the reference molecule at a concentration of 20 g/mL. The antioxidant activity of complexes and ligands was measured as a decline in DPPH methanolic solution absorbance induced by the impact of each complex or ligand's activity to donate hydrogen, allowing the reduced form of the DPPH radical (pale yellow solution) to emerge [27][28][29][30][31][32][33][34][35]. Metallic compounds have the antioxidant activity in studies due to the metal moiety, which improves their activity as a result, organotin compounds are predicted to have antioxidant activity due to the presence of the metal moiety [36,37].…”

“…The development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria Nowadays, bacterial infections are a serious threat because of the antibiotic resistance crisis that has been correlated to the overuse and misuse of antibiotics in addition to the lack of new medications development. The development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria such as S. aureus has minimized the effectiveness of antibiotics for treatment and has increased the need for the discovery of new antimicrobial drugs of natural origin [73][74][75].…”
