Phytochemical Screening, Antioxidant, Antiulcer, Anti-Inflammatory and Analgesic Activity of the Aqueous Extract of Angelica archangelica

Abstract: The objective of this study is to evaluate the antioxidant, antiulcer, anti-inflammatory and analgesic activity of the aqueous extract of Angelica archangelica L., a medicinal plant of the traditional pharmacopoeia of Algeria. The aqueous extract showed a large amount of total polyphenols, tannins, chlorophyll a, b, carotenoids and a small amount of flavonoids with values of 80.16±14.3 mg EAG/g of extract, 3.12±2.01 mg EQ/g of extract, 226.10±4.50 mg EAT/g of extract, 6.10±50.62, 12.00±31.53 and 1.78±0.40 μg/m… Show more

“…Such pain stimulus leads to the release of free arachidonic acid from the tissue phospholipid. The response is thought to be mediated by peritoneal mast cells, acid sensing ion channels and the prostaglandin pathway (Miraj et al, 2019;Mamache et al:, 2022). The results of this study have shown that M. chamomilla extract can induce analgesia in mice, by inhibiting the acetic mice acid-induced writhing.…”

“…Determination of antioxidant capacity of MCAqE was performed by a simple assay using the stable DPPH radical with the method described by Mamache et al (2022), where a volume of 50 μL of different dilutions of the plant extract was added to 1250 µL of DPPH solution (0.004%). After 30 min of incubation at room temperature, the absorbance was measured at 517 nm.…”

“…The aqueous extract was made following the methodology outlined by mamache et al 14 A 15 g of the powdered plant material was heated to a boil in 500 mL of water for ten (10) minutes, and then it was allowed to cool. The homogenate was then filtered using filter paper (Whatman size 2) and transferred into plates; it was dried at 38°C, 14 in an oven (MEMMERT UM 400 ref. P2209-1894, Germany).…”
