Phytochemistry, Biological and Pharmacological Activities of the Anacyclus pyrethrum (L.) Lag: A Systematic Review

Abstract: Anacyclus pyrethrum (L.) (Asteraceae) is an important annual medicinal herb and is widespread in Morocco and Algeria. Most of its parts are used in traditional medicine and the roots are the most important parts used. The present review gives an account of the updated information on its phytochemical and pharmacological properties. We have collected the essential characteristics and the different scientific data of the A. pyrethrum species, and reviewed its potential. It is seen from the literature that A. pyr… Show more

“…According to one study [16], the proportion of the major ingredient Spathulenol increase's significantly after blooming (16.9 %) over before blooming (13.31 %). Hence, a fraction as to germacrene 4-(15),5,10-( 14)-tren-1-α-ol inside the specimen obtained post blooming increased (12.89 %) compared to the sample collected pre-blooming (2.07 %) [18]. Moreover, Selina-3, 11-dien-6-ol had a larger proportion preblooming (9.24%), while the cedryl acetate molecule had a higher percentage after post-blooming (8.10 %).…”

“…The obtained extracts were stored in refrigerator at 4°C and were dissociated in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) for prior to use. 13 Bacterial strains A total of 07 microorganisms were used to assess the antimicrobial activity, it includes Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923, Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 and Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853 obtained from the National Center for Biotechnology Research (Constantine, Algeria); and (Staphylococcus aureus 1, Staphylococcus aureus 2, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Proteus mirabilis) clinical isolates from pus samples from skin (furuncles, pustules). The identification and characterization of isolates were performed on the basis of Gram staining, microscopic characteristics, colony characteristic, and biochemical tests using standard microbiological methods.…”

“…Another species of the genus containing this class of compounds is C. balsamita also known as costmary [19]. Two other species from different genera that have been documented to contain pyrethrins are Anacyclus pyrethrum [20] and Tagetes erecta [21], all of which are members of the Asteraceae family.…”
