To evaluate the quality control parameters of Goniothalamus wightii leaves, which are used for traditional medicine. The leaves extracts were characterized and to evaluate the phytochemical composition, antibacterial, antibiofilm and antioxidant activities. The macroscopic studies of the leaves are simply arranged, green color and dicot plant. The physico-chemical values are the presence of foreign matter, loss on drying, moisture and tannin content, no swelling and foaming capacity. Total ash, acid-insoluble ash, water soluble ash, and sulphated ash are the ash values; extractive values are examined in various organic solvents with visualized UV to exhibit various color variations. The proximate compositions were fiber, soluble and insoluble fiber, carbohydrates, and lipid content presence at g/100g. The quantitative phytoconstituents presence of hexane, ethyl acetate and methanol extracts such as were resolved in sequential extraction with hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate, and methanol bands were separated. The FT-IR spectrum resembles the aliphatic and aromatic amines, and the LC-MS were identified by phenolic and flavonoids derivatives, steroids, lignin’s. The compounds based the antioxidant activities were 50-80% inhibition against the free radicals and antibacterial, antibiofilm activities were strongly killed the pathogens (E. coli, E. faecalis). In concluded that the pharmacognostic standardization is the first report in these species. The extracts of G. wightiii have potential antioxidant, antibacterial and antibiofilm effects, which could lead to pharmaceutical and industrial applications.

The tracing of an alternative drug, Phytochemicals is a promising approach to the viral threats that have emerged over the past two years. Across the world, herbal medicine is a better solution against anti-viral diseases during pandemic periods. Goniothalamus wightii is an herbal plant, which has diverse bioactive compounds with anticancer, antioxidant, and anti-viral properties. The aim of the study was to isolate the compound by chromatography studies and functionalization by FT-IR, LC-MS, and NMR (C-NMR, H-NMR). As a result, the current work focuses on whether (S)-Goniathalamin and its analogue could act as natural anti-viral molecules for multiple target proteins viz., MPro, RdRp, and SPro, which are required for SARS-CoV-2 infection. Overall, 954 compounds were examined and the molecular-docking studies were performed on the maestro platform of Schrodinger software. Molecular-dynamics simulation studies were performed on two complex major compounds to confirm their affinity across 150 simulations. This research suggests that plant-based drugs have high levels of antiviral properties against coronavirus. However, more research is needed to verify its antiviral properties.

The current research describes a phytochemical analysis and antimicrobial activity of essential oils extracted from the leaves of two Vietnamese Annonaceae species Goniothalamus yunnanensis W.T.Wang and G. touranensis Ast. By the GC‐FID/MS (gas chromatography‐flame ionization detection/mass spectrometry) analyses, sesquiterpene hydrocarbons accounted for the highest percentage of 68.22% in G. yunnanensis leaf essential oil with bicyclogermacrene (31.03%) and (E)‐caryophyllene (21.12%) being the main compounds. G. touranensis leaf essential oil was dominated by monoterpene hydrocarbons (57.08%) with p‐cymene (19.95%) and α‐pinene (16.82%) being the major compounds. Two oil samples showed strong antibacterial effects on the Gram‐positive bacteria Enterococcus faecalis ATCC51299, Staphylococcus aureus ATCC29213, and Bacillus cereus ATCC11778 with the MIC values of 16‐64 µg/mL. They also inhibited the growth of the yeast Candida albicans ATCC 60193 with the same MIC value of 128 µg/mL. Both two oil samples showed strong mosquito larvicidal activity against four‐instar larvae of Aedes aegypti and Ae. albopictus with the 24‐h LC50 values of 16.75‐27.60 µg/mL and 24‐h LC90 values of 24.31‐46.18 µg/mL. Docking results indicated that bicyclogermacrene and p‐cymene exhibited the highest ΔG (binding affinity) values of –8.208 and –6.799 kcal/mol with the olfactory binding proteins (OBPs) of Ae. aegypti and Ae. albopictus, respectively.
