Phytoremediation of Heavy Metal Pollution: A Bibliometric and Scientometric Analysis from 1989 to 2018

Abstract: This paper aims to evaluate the knowledge landscape of the phytoremediation of heavy metals (HMs) by constructing a series of scientific maps and exploring the research hotspots and trends of this field. This study presents a review of 6873 documents published about phytoremediation of HMs in the international context from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) (1989–2018). Two different processing software applications were used, CiteSpace and Bibliometrix. This research field is characterized by high int… Show more

“…Among the databases, the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database covers almost all the most comprehensive and authoritative scientific literature worldwide. Numerous leading journals and detailed information about publications around the world are available from the WoSCC, which remains the most widely used database in the field of natural science [ 30 , 31 ]. In addition, the WoSCC could meet the special requirements of CiteSpace for data structure and content.…”

“…The metallic content of botanicals used for food, thus has the potential for direct and indirect adverse effects on the human nervous system. On the other hand, the ability of certain botanicals to bioaccumulate certain metals/metalloids is exploited to protect human health by reducing soil and water pollution via phytoremediation and mycoremediation [118,119]. Acknowledgments: Third World Medical Research Foundation assisted with the collection of information on food use and neurological effects of grasspea and cassava.…”

“…Phytoremediation is a green cost-effective eco-approach used in cleaning up soil and water from the chemical contaminations. As an essential method utilized in reducing the environmental pollution, an interest in phytoremediation has been growing rapidly in recent years [ 10 , 12 , 13 , 14 , 15 , 16 , 17 ]. As an emerging and sustainable technology that is cost-effective, solar-driven, passive and aesthetically acceptable, phytoremediation has become a sustainable technology for contaminant removal that can be used in different habitat types [ 16 ].…”
