Piezo‐Phototronic Effect Enhanced Flexible Solar Cells Based on n‐ZnO/p‐SnS Core–Shell Nanowire Array

Abstract: The piezo‐phototronic effect is about the enhanced separation, transport, and recombination of the photogenerated carriers using the piezoelectric polarization charges present in piezoelectric‐semiconductor materials. Here, it is presented that the piezo‐phototronic effect can be effectively applied to improve the relative conversion efficiency of a flexible solar cell based on n‐ZnO/p‐SnS core–shell nanowire array for 37.3% under a moderate vertical pressure. The performance of the solar cell can be effective… Show more

“…So it is highly desired to find schemes for developing a direct interaction between machines and human/environment and the possibility of large‐scale integrations. Thus piezotronic nanodevices and integrated systems were recently invented to achieve these goals . By replacing the external gating voltage with an inner‐crystal potential produced by piezoelectric polarization charges at the interface, as the “gating voltage” to modulate the charge transport, the two‐terminal, strain‐gated piezotronic transistors (PT) can be used to sense directly the circumstantial stimuli .…”

“…22 Remarkable performance improvements in solar cells, 23,24 LEDs, 25,26 and photodetectors 27,28 have been confirmed via the piezo-phototronic effect. As a traditional piezoelectric material, wurtzite GaN is intrinsically sensitive to an externally applied strain.…”
