Increasingly people experience alienation in educational institutions, in work life, and fragmentation in their personal life. This study explores more self-determined, healthy, and sustainable forms of working, learning, and living through a dynamic process that began in 2020 with the purchase of an old homestead in Eastern Germany. Through the remodeling of the buildings and grounds, the first social and cultural references emerged. Along with practical uses, the farm project sees itself as a future workshop or think tank. The resulting consideration includes ideas of compulsory schooling woven into a self-designed format and the introduction of an unconditional basic income. These components could lead to thousands of such projects in rural and urban areas. Drawing from communitarianism, the belief is that an active civil society must take on social, economic, and educational responsibilities and offer children and young people improved conditions in which to grow up. Theory development on the individual components exists, such as entrepreneurship, transformation, community-building, basic income, or self-directed learning but not on the interaction of these variables in the overall context. We tentatively call this integrated design a transformative community project.

The shared pedagogy of Andrzej Jaczewski and Karl-Josef Kluge grew out of the political and social changes taking place in West Germany after 1968. Their pioneering work focused on international integration, participation, intercultural learning, educating the gifted, giving space to creativity, and building leadership skills. The international pedagogical interactions initiated at that time were primarily the result of Andrzej Jaczewski’s long life journey marked first by German aggression and World War II and later by his conciliatory response to the postwar West German peace impulse. More than half a thousand participants in German-Polish encounters experienced transformative contact and spaces for dialogue in the Europeanising integration current despite the Cold War. We are reconstructing the shape of this experience and its immediate and distant effects by analysing documents, recording oral histories and describing our own autobiographical encounter experience in the stream of humanistically oriented social sciences. Our exchange of ideas was carried out in 2019–2021 remotely and during study visits to Berlin, Kraków, and Andrzej Jaczewski’s home in Ropki. With this article we contribute to the critical debate on the superficiality of the currently proposed education based on behavioural control in a barren and alienated education system. We advocate a pedagogy that prioritises individual freedom, more vibrant communities, increased autonomy, and cosmopolitanism.

Acording to the Kolb cycle, this autobiographical text is a macro-reflection on the way I experienced contact with Professor Andrzej Jaczewski for decades, especially at two stages of my life: first in scouting (as a 10-year-old) and then in the academic world (after the age of 30). In the first part, I reconstruct a set of factors including early aesthetic inspirations provided by him, which led me to my doctorate on the Europeanisation of Western culture. This path is accompanied by the universal Wagnerian aesthetics and spirituality, which scrolls in the background, once in a while becoming an important figure. In these 30 years of contact with Andrzej Jaczewski, Wagnerism expressed a great emotional and symbolic charge, also as an occasional subject of a joint internet action research project. Presented in the second part of the paper, the study is primarily focused on the first five years of this eight-year postdoctoral action research, inspired by the pedagogy of Janusz Korczak, conducted around silver digital content published systematically as half a thousand blog articles. Despite showing Korczak’s inspiration, I have adopted here, above all, the convention typical of contemporary academic auditing culture, focused on describing social impact and presenting its quantitative indicators.
