Abstract: Zusammenfassung: Georg Simmel gilt heute unbestritten als Pionier im Bereich der Raumsoziologie. Er wird dafür gewürdigt, Räumlichkeit früh als eine soziologisch relevante Problematik entdeckt zu haben. Indes setzen sich zahlreiche Autorinnen und Autoren dezidiert von seinem Raumkonzept ab: Einerseits wird beanstandet, es handele sich dabei um eine "absolutistische" Position, die Raum jenseits menschlichen Handelns und Denkens situiere.
