Pitting corrosion protection of low nickel stainless steel by electropolymerized conducting polymer coating in 0·5 M NaCl solution

Abstract: Conducting polymers of polyaniline (PANi) and poly(o-phenylenediamine) (PoPD) were electropolymerized by cyclic voltammetric technique on low nickel stainless steel (LN SS) in H 2 SO 4 solution containing aniline and o-phenylenediamine monomers. The coatings were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, UV-visible and scanning electron microscopic techniques and the results are discussed. The corrosion protective properties of PANi and PoPD coatings on LN SS in 0·5 M NaCl were evaluated using … Show more

“…Many conductive polymers have been tried to face this situation. Among them, poly (o-phenylenediamine) [12][13][14][15][16], polyaniline [17][18][19] and polypyrrole [20] have already been investigated on stainless steel and aluminium alloys. The present investigation aims at coating 316L SS with poly (p-phenylenediamine) (PpPD) and to evaluate its …”

“…The corrosion protection of pure aniline is worse than the composite layer containing PANI and Clinoptilolite (see Table 3 -ref [100]). and EIS in 0.5M NaCl [96] PoPD acts as a better protective layer than PANI on steel against pitting corrosion.…”
