Planar L‐strip fed broadband microstrip antenna

Abstract: A broadband rectangular microstrip antenna utilizing an electromagnetically coupled L-strip feed is presented. Experimental study shows a 2:1 VSWR bandwidth of Ϸ 10% and excellent cross-polarization performance with a radiation coverage almost as same as that of the rectangular microstrip antenna fed by conventional methods. The variation of bandwidth for different feed param- ANTENNA GEOMETRYThe geometry of the proposed antenna is shown in Figure 1. “…Folded metal-plate monopole antennas have the attractive features of compact size and easy construction, and their applications in conventional bar-type mobile phones as an internal antenna have been demonstrated [1][2][3]. Recently, due to the increasing demand for a larger display for multimedia services, folder-type mobile phones, which are capable of accommodating a larger LCD, have become popular for users.…”

“…A microstrip antenna is an ideal choice for communication purposes, but it offers a narrow bandwidth. Recently, a planar L-strip feed has been applied successfully to a rectangular microstrip antenna for improving the bandwidth [1]. When dielectric resonators (DRs) are loaded on a patch antenna, the bandwidth is improved up to 10% [2].…”

“…However, all these techniques increase the overall size or volume of the antenna. Recently, L-shaped microstrip feed has been successfully applied to the microstrip antennas for bandwidth enhancement [6] and has not significantly altered the overall volume of the radiating structure.…”
