Platelet counts on admission affect coronary flow, myocardial perfusion and left ventricular systolic function after primary percutaneous coronary intervention

Abstract: Patients with anterior STEMI treated by primary percutaneous coronary intervention with lower admission platelet count had higher left anterior descending coronary artery diastolic velocities, better myocardial perfusion with more patients having left anterior descending coronary artery-descending coronary artery velocity deceleration time >600 ms. Patients with higher platelet counts had lower left ventricular systolic function both at admission and before discharge.

“…It could be explained by the most excessive inflammatory state in advanced atherosclerosis, complicated by heart muscle damage. Statistically, significant difference between PLT count in IHF versus N-IHF (215.78 versus 169.62, p ≤ 0.04) group of patients is related with unfavorable prognosis and was widely reported in the literature [ 46 48 ].…”

“…The platelet counts on admission could reflect the cardiac function and the perfusion of coronary artery. Patients with platelet counts greater 400×10 9 /L had a worse LVEF, left anterior descending coronary artery and left ventricular wall motion score index 21. In our study, a statistical difference about criminal vessel is left main and right coronary artery in COL-P scores.…”
