“…Upon platelet activation, their highly organized cytoskeleton converts the disc-shaped platelets into hemisphere-shaped structures with extended filopodia [ 16 ]. Platelet activation consequently results in firm adhesion, aggregation and the formation of a hemostatic platelet plug [ 17 ]. Beside their role in hemostasis, they are also key players in inflammatory processes [ 15 ].…”

“… 9 , 10 Active platelets secrete growth factors stored in their granules, which causes additional LEC and EC activation and proliferation, thus acting as a positive feedback loop (Aii). 9 , 58 Finally, platelets are heterogenous because of the mechanisms of their production: platelets are “ripped” from the megakaryocytes, and thus, platelet membrane receptor expression is not uniform. 54 Hereby, it can be expected that some of the platelets in the blood flow have higher CLEC-2 levels (green platelets on the scheme) and some have lesser CLEC-2 levels (white platelets on the scheme).…”

“…There were controversial findings in this study as the RBC in the treatment groups 50mg/kg and 200mg/kg+NaCl were significantly lower than the neutral control group meanwhile no change was observed with the lone administration of the extract at 25, 100 and 200mg/kg of body weight/day. Platelets are known to prevent excessive posttraumatic blood loss at sites of vascular injury by forming a platelet plug [18]. The extract at the highest dose of 200mg/kg/day was able to prevent the drop of platelets caused by the lone administration of NaCl, this could be beneficial in the prevention of haemorrhage.…”
