Platinum supported on highly-dispersed ceria on activated carbon for the total oxidation of VOCs

Abstract: *Graphical Abstract (for review) Highlights-Pt-CeO 2 catalysts supported on activated carbon are active in the total oxidation of VOCs.-These catalysts have shown higher activity than platinum supported on bulk ceria.-The best catalyst contained only 10wt% ceria.-Pt-10Ce/C catalyst showed a high stability under both dry and humid conditions. AbstractCatalysts consisting in platinum supported on cerium oxide highly dispersed on wt.% ceria loading, likely due to an optimum synergistic interaction between highly… Show more

“…The diffraction lines characteristic for MgO (periclase) were found in the powder XRD patterns of the mixed oxides obtained at 600 and 700°C (the lines at approximately 43°, 50°and 74°2h). Phases with spinel structure (represented by diffraction lines at about 22°, 36°, 52°, 70°and 77°2h) were identified, together with periclase-like oxides, in the powder XRD patterns of the samples with the higher Al/Mg ratio (Co 5 Fig. 3 Powder XRD patterns of the mixed oxides obtained at various temperatures from the hydrotalcite-like precursors ratio showed larger surface area and (3) the increase in calcination temperatures resulted in gradual decrease in the surface area of the samples.…”

“…; a part of cobalt cations was oxidised during calcination in air to Co 3? species. Calcination of the samples at high temperature of 800°C, especially in the case of the samples with the higher Al/Mg ratio (Co 5 Mg 62 Al 33 and Co 10 Mg 57 Al 33 ), resulted in the appearance of the well-defined triplet at 545, 590 and 635 nm (inserts in Fig. 4) [34].…”

“…However, a higher humidity can have a negative effect, since water molecules adsorbed on the surface of catalyst can block adsorption of other reactant molecules, lowering catalytic conversion efficiency [24,[35][36][37][38][39]. Development of heterogeneous catalysts operating with a constant reactivity under variously humid conditions is highly required.…”
