Pliensbachian ammonites from the Central Apennines, Italy (Acquasparta section) – a revision of Fischer's collection and new data

Abstract: A critical review of Fischer's (1972) ammonite collection from Acquasparta (Monti Martani, Italy) and additional data from own collection allows to precise and homogenize the systematics and the biostratigraphy of 31 taxa. The biostratigraphy of this area is also refined and a sequence of six faunal horizons corresponding to the Ibex, Davoei and Margaritatus Zones is proposed. This horizon sequence, including the data of Monte di Cetona, fit well with the regional zonation and is worldwide correlated. For the … Show more

“…In Italy (Appenines) and Spain (Betic Basin), the Gemmellaroceras are present up to the upper part of the Jamesoni Subchronozone. Several species of Tropidoceras are particularly frequent between the uppermost part of the Jamesoni Subchronozone and the Valdani Subchronozone (Rivas, 1981;Dommergues et al, 1983Dommergues et al, , 1994Braga et al, 1984;Donovan, 1990;Ferretti, 1991;Venturi et al, 2005Venturi et al, , 2007Blau & Meister, 2011;Meister & Blau, 2014).…”

“…costicillatum (Fucini) -detractum (Fucini) and the Aalenian Vacekia stephensi Buckman. These taxa are temporarily abundant in western Tethyan localities (see Meister et al, 2011;Sandoval et al, 2012;Meister and Blau, 2014), but in Bulgaria they appear to be an absolute rarity. While the former taxon is represented by a single finding, the latter one is supported by the age-diagnostic Brasilia geisingensis Dietze et al (see Figs 2,3), which, in turn, is a graphoceratid with well-recorded stratigraphical position in SW Germany (Dietze et al, 2014).…”
