Polar coded probabilistic shaping PAM8 based on many-to-one mapping for short-reach optical interconnection

Abstract: In this paper, a polar coded probabilistic shaping (PS) 8-ary pulse amplitude modulation (PAM8) based on many-to-one (MTO) mapping is investigated for short-reach optical interconnection. By ingeniously assigning parity bits to ambiguities positions, no extra PS redundancy and no complex distribution matcher are required in the scheme comparing to traditional probabilistic amplitude shaping (PAS). The noise distributions after different transmission distances are studied and an optimal clock recovery method fo… Show more

“…Considering decoding complexity and encoding gain [9], [13], [18], the code length N and encoding rate are set to 256 and 0.5, respectively. The joint chaos encryption with the polar encoding scheme is proposed, adopting chaotic sequences x and y to encrypt the information index bit matrix and frozen bits.…”

“…How to map the origin binary bit sequence to the symbols of a specified probability distribution has a significant impact on the performance and computational complexity of the PS transmission system. To solve the ambiguity issue and excessive calculation complexity of the intensively studied bit-to-symbol PS mapping schemes, such as many-to-one (MTO) mapping, arithmetic distribution matching (ADM), and constant composition distribution matching (CCDM), , a brand PS scheme based on the bit-weighted distribution matching (BWDM) is proposed in ref . The specific probability distribution can be achieved by utilizing the bit weight intervention (BWI) on the short code block in BWDM.…”

“…When the code length increases indefinitely, part of the channel tends to be noiseless and highly reliable, and part tends to be a purely noisy frozen channel [14]. Experimental results show that Polar code combined with list-cyclic redundancy parity code (CRC) has better performance than LDPC code in the case of short code length [15], [16], [17].…”
