Polinização em uma comunidade de bromélias em floresta atlântica alto-montana no estado do Paraná, Brasil

Abstract: -(Pollination of a bromeliad community in the high montane Atlantic rain forest in Paraná state, Brazil). The main goals of this research were to characterize the pollinators of a bromeliad community in the Atlantic rain forest, as well as to understand the relationships between bromeliad flower morphology and its pollinators. The study was carried out at the "Pico do Marumbi" State Park on eight bromeliad species. The most of bromeliad species showed aggregate flowering between November and May. Five bromelia… Show more

“…Bromeliaceae is a large family of monocotyledons in which the majority of species are pollinated by hummingbirds (Martinelli 1997;Buzato et al 2000;Varassin & Sazima 2000;Kaehler et al 2005;Machado and Semir 2006;Piacentini & Varassin 2007) but bats may also be important (Sazima et al 1995;Sazima et al 1999). Insects may also pollinate these plants, yet this is seldom demonstrated (Benzing 2000;Varassin & Sazima 2000;Siqueira Filho & Machado 2001;Kaehler et al 2005;Lenzi et al 2006).…”

“…In the south and south-east regions of Brazil, the Atlantic Forest has the greatest generic diversity of this family due to the high degree of endemism and the interaction of the diversity of bromeliads with the fauna that inhabit them (Kaehler et al 2005). In the Amazon, 64 bromeliad species are known to occur, distributed into 14 genera (Smith 1955); these are reported in a variety of different habitats (Ribeiro et al 1999).…”
