Pollen Micromorphology among Amaranthaceous Species from Desert Rangeland: Exine Stratification and their Taxonomic Significance

Abstract: The aim of the study was to visualize the micromorphology of Amaranthaceous pollen using scanning electron microscopy collected from the Thal Desert. Field collection was conducted from July to September 2021. A total of 14 taxa of the family Amaranthaceae were collected which belong to nine genera. Achyranthes aspera, Aerva javanica, Aerva lanata, Amaranthus graecizans, Amaranthus retroflexus, Amaranthus viridis, Bassia indica, Chenopodium album, Chenopodium ficifolium, Chenopodium murale, Digera muricata, Ha… Show more

“…Acetolyzed pollen samples were coated with a layer of gold–palladium for sputtering. The distinct allergenic pollen characteristics, particularly surface ornamentation, were observed using a scanning electron microscope within the laboratory (Majeed, Ahmad, Ali, et al, 2023; Majeed et al, 2020).…”

“…Microcharacters including palynological and anatomical attributes were significantly considered in the identification of problematic taxa with their inter‐relationship with other taxa (Abbas et al, 2022; Çitak et al, 2021; Majeed, Ahmad, Ozdemir, et al, 2023), whereas they also assess in the classification of morphologically closely related taxa at tribe, genera, sections, and subspecies levels (Majeed et al, 2022; Shaheen et al, 2018; Via do Pico et al, 2016). Recently, pollen features were applied as phylogenetic traits in the identification and classification of phenotypically similar taxa within the groups (Majeed, Ahmad, Ali, et al, 2023; Younis et al, 2021). Further, based on pollen characters taxonomists were arrange plant taxa in their corresponding correct taxonomic rank.…”
