Poly (l-lactide acid) improves complete nano-hydroxyapatite bone scaffolds through the microstructure rearrangement

Abstract: β-carotene is a commonly used food colorant. In this work, a novel β-carotene producing strain, Serratia marcescens RB3, was isolated and identified by physiological and biochemical tests, as well as 16S rDNA sequence analysis. The production of β-carotene by S. marcescens RB3 was identified through HPLC analysis. The cultivation conditions for β-carotene production by S. marcescens RB3 were optimized as 2.0% lactose, 2.0% peptone, 0.3% beef extract, 1.0% NaCl supplemented with 0.05% Fe 2+ , pH 6.0 and 30ºC. “…Thus maximum zeaxanthin production was observed when A. gandavensis MTCC 25325 were exposed to low pH (pH 6.0). Similar results were obtained on Rhodotorula cheniorum (Nasrabadi and Razavi 2011) and Serratia marcescens (Wang et al 2012) at pH 5.85 and pH 6.0 respectively. The two dimensional (2D) plots also helped to understand that the most significant parameter is pH 6.0 (represented as the darkest green) and further to it, the colour lightens.…”

“…However, pH significantly affected the carotenoid production, with better pigment production at neutral pH. Serratia marcescens was found to produce a higher level of carotenoids at pH 6.0, than at acidic or alkaline pH (Wang et al, 2012). The production of β-carotene by yeast Rhodotorulaa cheniorum was found be highest at pH of 5.85 (Nasrabadi and Razavi, 2011).…”

“…Among enteric bacteria, S. marcescens is unique, because it secretes extracellular enzymes (e.g., chitinase, DNase, lipase, protease), produces red pigment prodigiosin and surfactant serrawettin used in the surfaces colonization 1 . Carotenoid pigments (e.g., β-carotene) are produced also in S. marcescens 2 , and the pigment biosynthesis acts as a protective mechanism in unfavorable conditions 1 . Bacterial strains living in the polluted environments must cope with the toxic compounds (e.g., organic solvents) which result from humans activity.…”
