Το θέμα της διδακτορικής διατριβής είναι η μελέτη της πολυχρωμίας της αρχαϊκής γλυπτικής στον ελλαδικό χώρο. Η επιλογή του θέματος αποσκοπούσε στη διεύρυνση της εξέτασης των χρωματικών στρωμάτων την περίοδο αυτή. Κι αυτό γιατί οι υπάρχουσες αρχαιομετρικές μελέτες σχετίζονται με μεμονωμένες περιπτώσεις ή μικρά σύνολα γλυπτών. Επιπρόσθετα, οι πολυάριθμες αρχαιολογικές συνθετικές μελέτες αν και ενδελεχείς βασίζονται αποκλειστικά σε μακροσκοπικές παρατηρήσεις των χρωματικών στρωμάτων. Σκοπός της διατριβής είναι η προσέγγιση της πολυχρωμίας των γλυπτών της αρχαϊκής περιόδου με την εφαρμογή μη καταστροφικών φυσικοχημικών μεθόδων εξέτασης και ανάλυσης. Οι μέθοδοι που εφαρμόστηκαν ήταν η οπτική εξέταση (μακροσκοπική και μικροσκοπική παρατήρηση), η Φασματοσκοπία Φθορισμού Ακτίνων Χ και η Φασματοσκοπία Raman. Το υλικό μελέτης της διατριβής είναι 110 δημοσιευμένα λίθινα αρχαϊκά γλυπτά του Εθνικού Αρχαιολογικού Μουσείου με προέλευση από όλο τον ελλαδικό χώρο. Η ενδελεχής μελέτη των ιχνών χρωματικών στρωμάτων οδηγεί στο συμπέρασμα ότι ο χρωματισμός των γλυπτών δεν ήταν αποτέλεσμα απλής εφαρμογής χρωστικών, αλλά αποτελεί προϊόν καλλιτεχνικής δημιουργίας. Ήταν δηλαδή δύο τέχνες, η γλυπτική και η ζωγραφική που συνέβαλαν στην ολοκληρωμένη δημιουργία ενός πλαστικού έργου των αρχαϊκών χρόνων.

The contribution offers an overview of the history of reconstructions and their use, with a representative selection of formats and their contexts, from the beginnings in the early 19th century to the present. The polychromy of ancient architecture is dealt with only to a limited degree.The point of departure is a perceived need of establishing an informed and critical discussion of the whys and wherefores of reconstructions. On the background of the investigative technologies which have been developed with unprecedented rapidity, a methodological protocol allowing cross-checks of data is recommended.
